Is this book pro-Christian or pro-Dan Brown? |
| The Da Vinci Decode evaluates the claims of the characters of the Da Vinci Code against historical evidence and ultimately affirms the Christian perspective. At the same time, The Da Vinci Decode treats Dan Brown’s book with fairness and respect. |

Do the beliefs of Christianity and the Bible differ a lot from what is presented in The Da Vinci Decode? |
| There are indeed great differences!
The differences between The Da Vinci Code and the Bible are such that one cannot be a Bible-believing Christian and also believe in the theories of presented in The Da Vinci Code. The Da Vinci Code uses some basic facts of Christianity and history (such as the existence of Jesus Christ and the Council of Trent), and some well-known characters from the Bible (such as Jesus and Mary Magdalene). But then it takes these and builds an elaborate fictional story that has very little to do with historical or Bible truth. |

What are the key differences between the Bible facts and the book, The Da Vinci Code? |
| There are some very important differences between the Bible facts and The Da Vinci Code.
Here are some of them:
The Bible teaches that Jesus was God.
The Da Vinci Code says that Jesus was only a man.
The Bible never mentions Jesus being married or having children.
The Da Vinci Code says that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene and had a child with her.
The Bible teaches that Jesus rose from the dead.
The Da Vinci Code says that Jesus did not rise from the dead.
The Bible teaches that all Scripture is inspired by God.
The Da Vinci Code says that the Bible was only put together by human beings with an agenda to deceive.
The Bible teaches the existence of a loving, personal God.
The Da Vinci Code denies the existence of God and the miraculous.

Can I believe the stories of the Bible? Are they real? |
| In recent decades, the view of modern scholars has swung towards an acceptance that the stories of the Bible are fundamentally based on real historical evidence. There are just too many facts discovered through archaeology and historical research to deny the events outlined in the Bible.
It is no longer possible, to deny the existence of the nation of the Hittites, as scholars once did. Now that the nation of the Hittites has been discovered by archaeologists, scholars find that the Bible was right all along. And evidence like this keeps being found.
Today, scholars accept that some of the writers of the Bible were actually also some of the best historians of the ancient world; for example Luke, who wrote the gospel of Luke, as well as the book of Acts.
Although people will always have different views about the stories of the Bible, the evidence is in favour of the factual and historical basis of the Bible stories. |

Everybody seems to go crazy about this book. Don’t you think the information contained in it could be disturbing for Christians, especialy Roman Catholics? |
Yes, I agree that this book has caused a lot of controversy. And I also agree that Christians could certainly find the plot of this novel disturbing, especially if they are unaware of the actual historical facts, so that they can separate truth from fiction in The Da Vinci Code. The book definitely paints the Roman Catholic Church as the villain of the story, although the issues raised in the book potentially concern all Christians. |

Where did the author get the information about the Da Vinci code? |
It is important to remember that the novel “The Da Vinci Code” is just that, a novel. And also, that there is nothing novel about the ideas of this novel. Because this book is a work of fiction, you need to be careful when you speak of the book as containing “information.” What the book contains is a very interesting story line that is based on unsubstantiated myths, legends, and conspiracy theories, and the bending of historical facts in order to make it all seem plausible. Some of the ideas in “The Da Vinci Code” are quite old; in fact they go back to within a few centuries after Christ’s death, when, like today, there were all sorts of ideas about Jesus flying around. If you want entertainment, you read a novel, like “The Da Vinci Code”. But if you want information, then you need to get into some solid history. Historians need to provide evidence for what they say, novel-writers don’t. |

Has the author of “The Da Vinci Code” read the Bible? |
This is not a question that I can answer. It seems like at least he knows something about the Bible, and it is clear that he has read some books with other people’s ideas about the Bible. |

I would not have purchased the movie if I had known that it was a movie that put our Lord Jesus down. I don't belive God’s people would have purchased this movie or got your book if they had known what it was about. It would not been a great seller. We Christians like Christian movies and books. This book and movie was a lie out the pits of hell, covered up like candy, to make you belive, and be damned. S.L.G. |
Thanks for your thoughts. There was certainly some heavy-duty marketing behind the book and the movie, wasn’t there?
For the record, “The Da Vinci Decode” – the book which is being promoted on this website – is NOT “The Da Vinci Code” by Dan Brown. “The Da Vinci Decode is a careful and factual response to Dan Brown’s book from a Christian perspective.
